We have talked about offering workshops for community groups, even for homeschoolers specifically, but for now, we are pleased to offer several family days throughout the year. Family Days include free hands on activities and gallery learning for all ages. If you think families on your mailing list would be interested, the next dates are September 18 and November 6, Sundays from 1-3, and we should have more information soon. In addition to the scheduled events, we offer free self-guided activities at the front desk, and there is a different topic each month. Families can pick them up anytime during museum hours, spend some time looking at selected works in the museum, and then receive a take home activity with a prize of art materials to work on a related project at home.

As for the children's Saturdays, here is more information about the fall line up in case you would like to pass it along to anyone:

Classes combine art study with hands-on activities. Each week students will investigate and discuss a selected group of works of art from the Spencer collection and create a work of their own based on the techniques, media, and traditions they discover. Ages 5-8 years old meet 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m, and ages 9-14 years old meet 1:30-3:30 p.m. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Scholarships are available (limit 4 classes per student). Register by returning the attached form either by email, mail, or in person. Classes are $12*/$10 for Friends of the Art Museum children.*Enroll in four or more classes and receive the FAM price. Payment is due at the beginning of class, and we can take either exact cash or check.

There are interesting workshops at the Spencer Art Museum on campus. You may want to take advantage of these. Many will enhance a time period you may be covering in your homeschool. The classes are two hours long and the students take home a special art/craft project. The museum is located at 1301 Mississippi Street. (which is behind the union and stadium is next door). If you have any questions or want to sign up your children (ask for a registration form), call Karen Gerety in their education department 864-0137 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
