The following activities are planned for the jr/sr homeschooling social group. If you have any questions contact Martha Bachert or Lisa McFarland. All the activities planned are for homeschooler’s in either junior or senior high. Your homeschooling friends are invited to these events so if you know of someone that would like to attend – please forward this information to them. We have other activities on the “back burner” for the future. We hope to have a movie night, bowling, and perhaps a winter formal/night out. We need the support of other parents to make these plans a success. If you are willing to host/plan/sponsor a monthly event, we love to hear from you. Martha Bachert

Some games will be provided but you may bring your favorite board game along. Admission is free. We will meet at Christ Covenant Church – 2312 Harvard Rd. – from 7:00 to 9:30pm. CHRISTIAN CONCERT – FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23rd If you missed hearing Jenni Smith and her husband Alex perform last spring, you need to make sure to come hear them in September. They are upbeat, soulful artists from Lawrence – currently performing praise and worship music in the Kansas City area. The admission is free – an offering will be collected. There will be refreshments for sale after the concert – proceeds going to the Christ Covenant Church youth program. Homeschooler’s will be invited to chat with Jenni and Alex “backstage” after their performance and hang out. This event will be held at Christ Covenant Church – 2312 Harvard Rd - at 7pm. There will be a door prize drawing at the end of the evening. HARVEST PARTY – MONDAY, OCTOBER 17th We have reservations at Free State Farms for a Harvest Party on Monday, October 17th. The kids will meet at Free State Farm from 4:30 – 7pm for a bonfire and wagon ride. The admission for this event will be between $8.00 and $10.00 – depending on the response we get. It will be necessary to pay in advance for this event. We need donations of hotdogs, buns, items to make smores and canned pop in cooler’s. Bring money to purchase a pumpkin if you want one. Plans are to have singing, a corn maze challenge, games, and more!! Please contact Martha Bachert or Lisa McFarland to sign up for this event. FALL FORMAL – FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21st This is in the planning stages and early reservations and ticket payment will be necessary. This would be a formal evening with dinner at the Eldridge Hotel or perhaps Tellers. Then the group would go to the Lied Center to see a performance of Beijing Modern Dance. Parents would need to transport the kids that don’t drive – perhaps a few parents could arrange carpooling. It is hoped that the evening will cost around $20.00 per person – parents are welcome to attend as well. The kids would need to dress formally for this event. Contact Lisa McFarland for more information. It is possible that another formal event could be planned for February – depending on interest. |
