Dear Friends, Below is information on two possible classes that are available to =20 students in grades 8-12th. Please contact Andrea if you have questions. Cathy +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Hello Cathy, Below is the information for my classes. Please feel free to modify or edit at your discretion. I cannot state location yet, but I included a class day and time. If there's a day and place that would be convenient for most people I'd be open to that. Many thanks, Andrea
Andrea Senf grew up in a Christian family, and her parents homeschooled her and her sisters in Des Moines, Iowa. She received her master’s degree in Christian Apologetics from Biola University, and her passion is to help others love God more deeply and serve God more effectively by learning about him through apologetics. Open to students in 8-12th grades, classes meet one day a week from October through end of April and will be assigned homework. Course fees: $17 per month ($120 per student), discount for siblings. Basics of Scripture and the Resurrection – an introduction to apologetics Textbook: Case for the Resurrection of Jesus by Habermas and Licona (Kregel) [$13 @ Amazon.com] This class will help students value the content of the Bible in a new way, by showing them how we got our Bible and why we can trust what it says. The focus in not on the teachings of scripture, but rather on scripture itself – its origin, transmission, canon, and inerrancy. Students will also examine the central event in salvation history – the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. Knowledge that can increase students’ appreciation for and confidence in the gospel accounts will be the focus. This course will focus on the basics of scripture and the resurrection: - Reliability of scripture. Has our Bible been changed, and did the events actually happen? - Resurrection of Jesus. Examining evidence for the event, as well as alternate explanations. - Canon of scripture How were books included? Were any books left out? - Inerrancy What is inerrancy, and what is it not? Every believer can benefit from apologetics, for the more we know about God, the more capable we are of loving and serving him! The truth changes us so that we can better praise God for his mighty works, and so we can glorify him by sharing what we know with others. Basics of Bible Reading – an introduction to hermeneutics Textbook: Playing With Fire by Walt Russell (NavPress) [$11 and under @ amazon.com] Although I was a homeschooled student who attended a bible believing church, I was surprised to find how many things I had been missing in my study of scripture once I was made aware of the process of hermeneutics! I would like to pass these tools on to other students. This course focuses on the basics of interpretation: - recognizing the different kinds of writing scripture uses - knowing what to expect and take from the different kinds of writings - the importance of context in understanding scripture’s meaning - how knowing an author’s situation helps us find meaning - using basic Bible study tools - analyzing cult interpretations The Bible was written centuries ago, through many different human authors, in many varied styles for many different purposes. It is 66 separate books gathered into one unified volume – the word of God. Students will learn the basics of what to look for in each of the main writing styles of the Bible so they can receive all God that intended for us! |
